ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP NOMINATIONS

Annual nominations for the Bill Bissett and Bottle Family Memorial Scholarships Open in May of Each Season

AND introducing the DBSD Legacy Scholarship : Brand new specifically for dancers aged 6-11 years old.

Both the Bissett and Bottle scholarships cover 100% of the dancer’s tuition for one dance season. The DBSD Legacy scholarship will cover 50% of the dancer’s tuition for one dance season.

Anyone is permitted to send in nominations (Parents/Guardians may nominate their own child, dancers may nominate themselves/each other) Priority attention will be given to the nominations that come from within DBSD, from students, teachers, and caregivers who have had direct contact with the nominee in the context of dance. It is not the number of nominations, but rather the content of the nominations that is the most important.

These scholarships are not primarily based on the nominees proficiency as a dancer but rather are centred around the following:

  1. Teamwork

  2. Work-ethic

  3. Kindness

  4. Respect

  5. Care for others (being altruistic, helping team-mates, showing empathy)

  6. Effort made in class and at all rehearsals (asks questions, supports the teacher, helps others, always works hard and does their best)

  7. Ability to accept, understand, and implement corrections in class

  8. Behaviour at dance competition (where applicable)

  9. Attitude toward competition in general, showing a learning and growth mind-set, handling perceived defeats gracefully and moving forward in a mature manner, being kind and supportive of ALL dancers and ALL studios at dance competition (where applicable)

  10. Where applicable, the successful candidate shows a high level of self-sufficiency and self-motivation
